E. A. Bowden, CPA (1906-1995) started his accounting practice in the years after World War II. Roland Wood, III, CPA (1943-2003) became his business partner in 1970, establishing Bowden & Wood, CPAs as a small firm dedicated to other small businesses. They chose to practice in Downtown Louisville, close to the heart of Louisville’s business districts, while seeking out clients in the surrounding areas.
Mr. Bowden and Mr. Wood wanted to specialize in the Automobile Dealership and Contractor industries so they could serve their clients with expert knowledge of those fields. Their goal was to build their firm by hiring the best accountants they could find, pass on their expertise, and ensure that they delivered consistent service year after year.
Mr. Bowden and Mr. Wood hired our current Managing Partner, Mark Schaeffer, as a staff accountant in 1975, the year before he earned his accounting degree. Mark was a natural successor to our founders. He and his fellow partners continue to uphold the Bowden & Wood traditions of specialization, small business, and consistent performance.
